"Alternative Music" and time passages...

I tried to post this as my 'status' on Facebook, but alas only so many characters limited me...

Here's my entire note.... It's basically a long-winded explanation why I felt the need to post an old photo of me when I was young and good-looking (ha)...

One of my employees asked me this past week if I liked "alternative" music... I told her that back in my day I was known for being the first often to be "into" artists who were up-and-coming (e.g. I was into REM before most people had heard of them, and saw them at the "Bronco Bowl" in Dallas on their Fables of the Reconstruction (3rd album) tour... This was about 1985... I mentioned I was into the Smiths and others...and although r.e.m. was someone this person had heard of, The Smiths (w/ Morrissey as their lead singer) just drew a "blank"... I guess what "Alternative" means has changed... I was told examples of alternative music now are Daughtry and Nickelback...admittedly, I'm not into music nearly as much as I once was, and probably now have a collection on my iPod weighted firmly from the 80s/90s, but wouldn't recognize Daughtry if one of his songs came on the radio...perhaps Nickelback too... Back in my day "Alternative" meant something NOT heavy metal...I guess today it's something not (?) rap or "pop" ... I guess... Just feeling old... SO, that's why I posted this old photo of me back when I was young and HIP! Ha! Have a great weekend everybody....thawing out here in North Texas!

Sorry my BLOG is so sparsely utilized...but I'm a lazy bastige so sue me...!

Musings from the Blackjack Table

Well, I know playing Blackjack isn't probably everyone's cup-of-tea or even a hobby for many... It is clearly evident besides that many people who go play at their local Indian casino don't have a CLUE as to Mr. Thorpe's research from the 1950s or whenever about how to play the game in the so-called "right way" -- a.k.a. Basic Strategy.

Now, the little old black lady with bluish-white hair or the pimply college kid with 40 free bucks can be excused from hitting that 14 against a dealer 6...after all (and I'll get into this later) although the "guy at third base" is supposed to be watching out for the table, it JUST DOESN'T MATTER what anyone else does in blackjack as it pertains to your own hand... Meaning despite the fact that most people believe if someone plays poorly and takes a card when they should have stood, the chances that it will make the dealer bust or make a hand aren't changed statistically...and so although it might affect the player playing poorly's fate in that particular hand, it won't affect yours in the long-run...oh, yea, that hand could be scrutinized and if the player in seat 3 would have correctly stood, then player 6 would have caught his 8 he needed for 21 and the dealer would have busted, but it's JUST as likely that BECAUSE the player hit, then the 3rd baseman got his card, and the dealer got too many... Make sense? Bottom line is, there are little mini-fights all the time at the blackjack table because some smart guy thinks he's being screwed by a bad player in front of him... But this just isn't logical nor true... The scariest part is that the DEALERS seem to believe in this mystic mythology too! AND I've seen them chiding patrons...which chaps my ass...people come to play, and unless they ASK you for an education, let them go to HitOrStand.net and learn it on their own...

Well, I have to get on I-35 and head up the highway to the Chickasaw nation...hopefully to win a few Ben Frankies but more likely to contribute to the Native American College Fund ;~)

First Edition...

Well, I have started a BLOG before but never followed up... I have been enamored by Candice Sonnier-Stroh's "Life According to Candice" blog (she's a good friend of mine from "back home") and decided I'd give it a go...at least for a while... I decided to call my blog "Stop Stupid People from Breeding" because I think think we are, as a civilization, in a major decline due to the fact that there is no LICENSE that one needs to have children... Now many folks have children and they're smart enough and do fine, so this is not an indictment on everyone with children, and specifically is not aimed at a certain person I know who has a couple of wonderful kids that I've fairly recently had a falling out with...in fact NOT AT ALL. This is more an "in general" phenomenon...and quite honestly, as someone with no children, one might say I took my own advice, and knew that I was too stupid to be trusted with the awesome responsibility of having a kid...in retrospect, it was the smartest thing I never did ... not to have that kid as my marriage of 12-14 years (or whatever) is about to end, and if we'd have had kids, I'm sure it would have only made the divorce trauma many times more troubling...in fact, we probably both would have continued to be unhappy and unsatisfied with life for the sake of those little guys...

Well, I'll end here, and I realize I haven't really said a whole lot, but just wanted to introduce readers to the tenor of my blog and what it will be about going forward... Looking forward to blogging for your enjoyment as the summer goes by and as the old turns into the new.... Life is an adventure after all, and you don't have to be any certain height to ride this ride!
